Cairo – 1 April 2017: A new Arabic musical, Leila, is

premiering

April 20 in Cairo. Leila breaks tradition in the musical theater scene, as it is written in Arabic and stars an Egyptian cast in addition to blending both Arabic and rock music, uncommon in musical theatre.

The melodramatic musical revolves around a peaceful village by the seashore cast with an evil spell by a witch living in a lighthouse. The audience enters the lives of its inhabitants through the love story of Leila and Kareem and how they face their antagonist. Ultimately, it is a battle between the power of love against witch crafting,

Leila will premiere April 20-30 at the Marquee Theater in Cairo Festival City. Tickets are available online at

Musical theater does not have much of a following in Egypt, although an Egyptian Arabic translation of Broadway favorite Les Miserables took Egypt by storm a few years ago, and musical theater group Fabrica has brought to life a stage production of the Arab classic Leila Kebira.
