CAIRO – 27 September 2017: Cairo Opera House will pay tribute to two legendary Arabic composers, Sayed Darwish and Riad El Sunbati, on September 28 at Sayed Darwish Theatre Alexandria Opera and on September 29 at Damanhur Opera Theatre.

The Alexandria Opera Ensemble for Music and Arabic Singing will perform a number of Darwish’s and Sunbati’s compositions.

The concert is divided into two parts. The first contains the most known works by Darwish as “Ah Dah Ely Sar,” “Dengy, Dengy,” and “El Arwam.”

The second part is for Sunbati’s compositions such as “Efrah Ya Alby,” “Lahn El Wafaa’,” “Leh Ya Banafseg,” and “Elah El Koon.”

The concert will be conducted by Abd El Hamid Abd El Ghafar. A number of singers such as El Sayed Wahab Allah, Wael Abo El Fotoh, Ahmed Essam, Mai El Gebely, and Marwa Hamdy will be participating in the concert.

Sayed Darwish is one of the most legendary Arabic musicians. He was born in 1882 in Alexandria.

He composed a big number of plays and many folk songs such as “Oom Ya Masry.”

The current Egyptian anthem “Belady, Belady” was composed by Darwesh.

He managed to develop Egyptian music and pave the way for many singers such as Mounira El Mahdeya.

Sunbati is the king of composing music for Arabic poems. He was born in 1906.

He has more than 500 compositions as monologues, sketches, songs, operettas and plays.

He cooperated with the leading Arabic artists such as Umm Kalthum, Abd El Halim Hafez, Fayza Ahmed, Warda and Asmahan.
