Most influential Arab celebrities - Egypt Today

CAIRO – 18 August 2017: For the first time this year Forbes Middle East reveals its top 10 Arab celebrities by looking at celebrities and influencers such as actors, singers, and TV personalities across the region.

According to the Forbes, they looked at over 500 Arab celebrities’ social media. They gave the most weight to social media, however they calculated the length of a celebrity’s career and extra activities such as being an UN ambassador.

Here are the top 10 of the most influential Arab celebrities:


1) Amr Diab:

Amr Diab, Egyptian singer, was born on October 11, 1961. According to his Facebook page his songs have been translated to more than seven different languages. Diab is a six-time winner of the World Music Awards.




2) Nancy Ajram:

Ajram, Lebanese singer, was born in May 1983. Her career boosted in 2003, and in 2007 she sold over two million records ranking 3rd best-selling female artist in Lebanese history. According to her website, she was described on the Oprah Winfrey Show as one of the most influential personalities of the Middle East.

3) Elissa:

Elissa, Lebanese singer, was born on October 27, 1972. Elissa was the highest-selling female Middle Eastern artist for 2005, 2006 and 2010. She is one of the richest celebrities in Lebanon.

4) Kadim al-Sahir:

Sahir, Iraqi singer, was born on September 12, 1957. He sold more than 30 million albums since the start of his career.

5) Najwa Karam:

Karam, a Lebanese singer, was born on February 26, 1966. She graduated from Eastern College (Zahle) with a degree of arts. She started singing after winning a golden medal in a music contest in Lebanon. She is one of the most successful Arab singers and has participated in numerous festivals and concerts around the world.

6) Adel Emam:

Emam, the Egyptian actor, was born May 17, 1940 in El Mansoura. He graduated from Cairo University with a Bachelor's degree in agriculture. In 1966, he started his acting career. He appeared in more than 100 films and 10 plays.

7) Assala Nasri:

Nasri, the Syrian singer, was born on May 15, 1969. Her commercial musical career started in 1991; her album held four songs. In 1993, she became famous after her album ‘If You Know.’




8) Ahlam Al Shams:

Al Shams, the Emirati singer, was born on February 13, 1969. Her career started in the year 2006 when she signed with the major record label, Rotana.




9) Ragheb Alama:

Alama, the Lebanese singer, was born on June 7,1962. He started singing at the age of eight. He began his career in singing in 1980’s when he appeared as contestant on talent show called ‘Studio el Fan.’ He received many awards and one of them was the Golden Oscar of Cairo’s Music Festival.




10) Georges Wassouf:

Wassouf, the Syrian singer, was born on December 23, 1961. His father encouraged him to sing from a young age. Hence, he started his singing career at 13. He became a well-known singer at the age of 14. He has released over 20 albums.
