CAIRO – 3 August 2017: Turkish Cartoonist Musa Kart,

previously imprisoned

for his supposed involvement in a

failed coup

against the government, was released on July 28 under supervision alongside several other

members

of Cumhuriyet, the newspaper he was working for. Kart's opening statement had attracted online attention, being spread by sites such as bleedingcool.com and artforum.com, where the full statement was reposted in English.

There, Kart decried the charges against Cumhuriyet and implored the court to better examine the supposed evidence against it, pointing out there was no possible way he could rationally be convicted as being part of the failed coup.
The trial will resume on September.
