The Castor pajama stands as one of the most iconic creations of the El Mahalla Spinning and Weaving Company, celebrated for its exceptional quality and unmatched durability.

Made from premium Egyptian long-staple cotton, the pajama is famed for its softness, comfort, and meticulous craftsmanship — with nearly five meters of fabric used for each piece, reflecting the company’s dedication to excellence in every detail.

Blending simplicity with classic elegance, the Mahalla pajama became a favorite across generations and a true symbol of Egyptian heritage and authenticity in the textile world. Warm in winter and breathable in summer, it remains the perfect all-season garment — a mark of timeless comfort and design.

For decades, this pajama has been exported worldwide, strengthening Egypt’s position as a global textile powerhouse. And though fashion trends evolved after the economic openness of the late 20th century, the Castor pajama still holds a special place in the hearts of those who value authenticity and quality.

In the heart of El Mahalla El Kubra, about 120 kilometers north of Cairo, this legendary garment continues to defy time. Once mass-produced during the 1970s—especially around the October War—the Castor pajama became deeply intertwined with Egypt’s national and industrial identity.

Walking through Mahalla’s bustling streets, you’ll still find shops proudly displaying the pajama that once defined Egyptian craftsmanship. “Despite the rise of modern fashion, the Castor pajama still has loyal customers,” says Ahmed Abdel Rahman, a local shop owner. “Families come looking for it every winter—it’s known for its warmth and unbeatable quality.”

Another shopkeeper, Mohamed Hassan, adds: “Older generations especially love it. They grew up with this pajama and trust its strength and softness. Prices vary, but they’re affordable and available in many colors.”

Woven by skilled Egyptian hands, the Castor pajama became more than clothing—it evolved into a cultural and industrial legacy, connecting the past with the present. Even today, it stands as proof that true craftsmanship never goes out of style, preserving Egypt’s textile heritage through every thread.
