South Korea and Egypt are set to continue their year-long celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with a series of prestigious cultural events in Cairo. The celebrations will feature a special exhibition and a gala concert, highlighting the deep cultural ties and shared history between the two nations.
The events are hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea and organized by the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE).
They are presented in collaboration with the Presidential Archives of Korea, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
Special Exhibition: “Ham, What We Hold Together”
From September 11 to 28, 2025, the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo will host the special exhibition, “Ham, What We Hold Together.” The exhibition’s title draws from the Korean tradition of the ‘Ham’—a gift box symbolizing new beginnings and promises—reflecting the spirit of the Korea-Egypt partnership.
The exhibition will offer a unique glimpse into 30 years of bilateral relations. Visitors will have the exclusive opportunity to view official diplomatic documents, 15 significant gifts exchanged between the leaders of both countries, and a selection of exquisite Korean crafts. The display will also include items representing Korea’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Gala Concert: Sumi Jo & Cairo Symphony Orchestra
On September 12, 2025, the Cairo Opera House will host a spectacular gala concert. World-renowned Korean soprano Sumi Jo will make her highly anticipated Egyptian debut, performing alongside the esteemed Cairo Symphony Orchestra. The program promises a captivating blend of classic opera arias, beloved Korean songs, and pieces specially selected to resonate with Egyptian audiences. The performance has generated significant excitement within local cultural circles.
A Milestone for Future Cooperation
“This celebration will not only reaffirm the 30-year friendship between Korea and Egypt but also serve as a milestone for future cultural cooperation,” said Mr. Park Chang-sik, President of the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE). “Through these events, we hope to build a deeper, people-to-people understanding that will carry our relationship forward for the next 30 years and beyond.”
The exhibition opening and concert are expected to be attended by senior government officials, diplomats, and prominent figures from the cultural sectors of both countries.
Meanwhile Korea’s participation as the Guest of Honor at the Cairo International Art District (CIAD), will further enrich and solidify the cultural dialogue between Korea and Egypt.
