A powerful and beautifully crafted documentary shining a light on orphans raised in orphanages—a heartfelt masterpiece from the creators of the series Welad El Shams.

The Ramadan 2025 television landscape is graced by “Welad El Shams,” a series that delves deep into the complexities of friendship, exploitation, and resilience within the confines of an orphanage.

This 15-episode drama, starring Ahmed Malek, Taha Desouky, Mahmoud Hemeida, Jala Hisham, Felix, Moataz Hisham, and Farah Youssef, directed by Shady Abdel Salam and penned by Mohab Tarek, offers a poignant exploration of societal neglect and personal redemption.

The series centers on two inseparable friends, Wela’a (Ahmed Malek) and Moftah (Taha Desouky), who have grown up together in Dar Al-Shams orphanage. Under the oppressive rule of the corrupt director, Magd (Mahmoud Hemida), the two friends are coerced into a life of petty crime, including theft and pickpocketing.

As they mature, their yearning for freedom and justice intensifies, leading them to challenge Magd’s authority and seek a better future for themselves and their fellow orphans.

Ahmed Malek delivers a compelling performance as Wela’a, capturing the character’s internal struggle between loyalty and the desire for emancipation.

Taha Desouky’s portrayal complements Malek’s intensity, bringing depth to their brotherly bond. Mahmoud Hemida embodies the menacing presence of Magd, adding layers to the antagonist’s persona.

Supporting roles by Farah Youssef, Mariam El Gendy, Jala Hesham, and Moataz Hesham enrich the narrative, each contributing to the authenticity of the orphanage’s microcosm.
