CAIRO - 18 July 2017: The Game of Thrones (GOT) season 7 premiere set a series record of 10.1 million viewers on Monday. It was the most watched episode in the series’ history, according to Hollywood reporter.

The episode, titled “Dragonstone”, beat the record of last year’s season 6 finale. The season 6 finale had 8.89 million viewers, which was the most watched episode back then. GOT fans were missing the series, which was delayed many times. The series’ producers were waiting to shoot during the winter season.

Game of Thrones’ viewership has grown over the past years since the pilot episode. The series first aired in 2011 and scored only 2.22 million viewers.

HBO uploaded an entire recap of seasons 1-6 on Sunday to help audiences get a quick refresher before the season 7 premiere on Monday.
