CAIRO – 17 May 2022: The two Cairo International Airport Museums at Terminals 2 and 3 will receive transit passengers free of charge on May 18, on the occasion of their first anniversary.

 

 

 

 

Head of the Museums Sector Moamen Othman explained that the anniversary of opening the two museums coincides with the International Museum Day, which the world celebrates this year under the slogan “The Power of Museums.” This is a great opportunity to encourage the visit of the two museums on this important day, and contribute to raising awareness of the educational, societal and educational role of museums.

Othman added that free guided tours and workshops are also provided to visitors of the two museums on this day. This allows them to invest their waiting time at the airport in getting to know the ancient Egyptian civilization.

 

 

 

 

For her part, Director of the Airport Museum [Terminal 2] Engy Aziz said that the workshop to be held at the museum comes under the title "Our Country's Heritage" to introduce the importance of the Egyptian heritage through the use of clay and colors, where visitors will learn about pottery making and the frequent use of these utensils by the ancient Egyptians, whether to preserve perfumes or food.

Wafaa el-Behairi, director of the Airport Museum [Terminal 3], said that the workshop to be held in the museum includes the coloring of some of the reproductions that the museum’s restoration specialist manufactured, which will be then given to the travelers as a souvenir from the museum, such as the hippo clone and the writer’s statue. Another workshop that teaches children how to draw the most prominent pieces of the museum on special plastic panels will also be held with the help of the museum's curators.

 

 

 

 

Additionally, a documentary film about the airport museums will be screened on the airport screens in Terminal 3.

It should be noted that the Airport Museum [Terminal 2] includes some 304 unique artifacts that highlight the artistic and historical features of each era of Egypt, from the ancient Egyptian era to the Greco-Roman, Coptic, and Islamic eras, and ending with the era of the Alawite Family. It also includes a section dedicated to religions, which expresses the extent of coexistence witnessed in Egypt, the birthplace of the heavenly religions.

 

 

 

 

The Airport Museum [Terminal 3] includes some 60 artifacts from different eras of ancient Egyptian history, from the Old Kingdom to the Islamic era.
