Important world events:

 

1883 - Krakatoa volcano begins its last eruption, leaving 163 villages destroyed and 36,380 dead.

 

 

 

1936 - The signing of a treaty between the United Kingdom and Egypt, during which the United Kingdom agreed to grant Egypt partial independence in return for establishing its complete control over the Suez Canal.

 

 

 

1961 - Burma becomes the world's first Buddhist country.
