15th Annual International Summer Festival launches July 10

CAIRO - 7 July 2017: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Arts Center announced that the 15th Annual International Summer Festival will kick off on Monday, July 10, running until Saturday, August 26.

The International Summer Festival is a massive music and arts festival organized by the BA Arts Center with the goal of adding a “colourful taste” to summers in Alexandria, as explained in their mission statement. Attracting a diverse audience through its combination of classical Egyptian art, new and varied mediums of art and music, and the 2017 addition will house more than 60 versatile artistic events, varying between music, theatre, cinema and dance.

The festival program will host various concerts featuring several prominent Egyptian stars such as Ali el-Haggar, Hany Shaker and Hanan Mady. Egyptian mega star and Alexandria native, Angham will give a concert to conclude the festival on Wednesday, August 26.

This year’s festival will witness the participation of a group of young singers including Mohamed Mohsen, Dina el-Wedidi, Ali el-Helbawy and May Abdel Aziz. The participating Egyptian musicians contain the renowned musician Omar Khairat, Fouad and Mounib, Ahmed Rabie and Hisham Kharma. The program also houses concerts by Moroccan artist Oum, Tareq al-Nasser from Jordan, Nasser el-Mizdawi from Libya and Asia Madani from Sudan.

Numerous musical bands will also be taking part in this year’s festival such as Cairokee band, Black Theama, Massar Egbari, Andromedia and Wust El Balad. Nine theatrical shows, dance shows, and stand-up comedy performances are scheduled in the program.

The opening ceremony and activities for the festival focuses on highlighting culture of China, the guest of honor for the 2017 festival. In a celebration expected to last until July 12, there will be a Xinjiang photo exhibition, Xinjiang’s national musical instruments exhibition, three Chinese film screenings and Xinjiang national dance performance.
