CAIRO - 21 June 2020: Planning Minister Hala el Saeed has allocated some LE 34.5 billion for the agriculture sector; a two-percent rise on the fiscal year 2019-2020.

Agriculture is a top-priority because it plays a key role where industry inputs and growth rates are concerned, not to mention that it is a labor-intensive sector, particularly in the countryside, the Ministry said in a statement Sunday.

It is also interrelated with other sectors, such as the transport, storage, trade and transformative industries, the statement added.

The Ministry touched upon efforts to replace agricultural imports with local products to be able to improve self-sufficiency rates, according to the statement.

A plan to increase agricultural exports and tap new markets is also in place, the statement said.

It put the value of Irrigation Ministry investments during the fiscal year 2020-2021 at about LE 8.32 billion.
