CAIRO – 5 April 2017: Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr met with Hafez Ghanem, the World Bank's (WB) vice president for the Middle East and North Africa, in Washington, D.C. on the sidelines of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi's visit to the U.S. this week.

The meeting was attended by WB Executive Director Merza Hassan and Alternate Executive Ragui El-Etreby, the ministry said in a Wednesday statement.

The talks took up implementing the deal reached during President Sisi's latest meeting with WB President Jim Yong Kim on boosting cooperation between Cairo and the WB on all levels, promoting Egypt's private sector's role and supporting the country's efforts to lure more foreign investment.

Nasr reached an agreement with the WB officials to provide Egypt with the necessary support to enhance the private sector's role in economic and social development, in a way that would maintain Egypt's sustainable development.

The conferees also reviewed the WB's development projects carried out in Egypt, particularly in the fields of health, education and energy.

According to the statement, a number of WB officials will visit Egypt in the coming weeks to follow up on the projects implemented in the country and to discuss the probability of establishing new ones in line with Egypt's development priorities.
