CAIRO – 31 March 2017: Egypt and Germany will hold a joint investment forum in the German capital Berlin in June, Egyptian Minister of Investment Sahar Nasr announced with German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller Friday.

Meeting in Berlin, the ministers discussed increasing the volume of German investment in Egypt and enhancing bilateral cooperation in a number of developmental projects,

according to a statement

by the Egyptian Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation.

Nasr emphasized the existing cooperation between Germany and Egypt in central fields, such as sanitation and irrigation, renewable energy, climate change and environmental protection, through financing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), the statement read.

She further stressed that her visit to Berlin comes to follow up the results of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s recent visit to Egypt, which represented a strong impetus for economic relations between the two countries.

Müller referred to Egypt as an important partner to Germany in the Middle East region, noting his country’s support for all development and economic reform measures in Egypt.

The German chancellor visited Egypt earlier this month, where she met with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and other top officials.

On March 5, Nasr announced that Egypt was set to receive half a billion dollars from Germany to support the government’s economic program and SMEs.

Germany currently ranks 20th among the countries investing in Egypt in terms of the dollar amount of investment.
