CAIRO – 29 January 2026: Egypt’s Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Schneider Electric Egypt to advance climate action and strengthen food security through the NWFE Program (Nexus on Water, Food, and Energy).
The agreement, running from 2026 to 2029, was signed by Minister Rania Al-Mashat and Schneider Electric CEO Sebastian Riez, in the presence of Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk and IFAD Country Director Vrej Jijyan.
Under the MoU, Schneider Electric will provide integrated solutions for sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture, leveraging technologies including solar energy and IoT systems.
The initiative aligns with Egypt’s Climate Resilient Water Resources Management in the Nile Valley (CROWN) project, aiming to support smallholder farmers and enhance resource efficiency in agriculture, water, and energy sectors.
Al-Mashat said the agreement reflects Egypt’s commitment to engaging the private sector and international partners in sustainable rural development. “Agriculture and food security are central to our economic strategy, with plans to raise the sector’s contribution to GDP to 17 percent by 2030,” she noted.
Minister Alaa Farouk highlighted the importance of private sector collaboration to empower small farmers and drive agricultural growth in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives.
For Schneider Electric, the MoU represents a step toward sustainable development and smarter energy management. CEO Riez said: “We are proud to support Egypt’s transition toward clean energy and efficient, climate-resilient agricultural practices.”
IFAD’s Country Director confirmed that the partnership introduces a new dimension in food security, harnessing technology to strengthen the agricultural sector’s resilience and productivity.
The project builds on Schneider Electric’s previous initiatives in Egypt, which have focused on applying sustainability solutions to improve efficiency and support communities, aligning with the country’s green economy goals.
