CAIRO – 25 September 2025: Egypt and South Korea have deepened their cooperation in technical education with the signing of a $10 million agreement to upgrade vocational training centers specializing in Electric Vehicle (EV) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) maintenance technologies.

The project will be implemented through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in partnership with Egypt’s Productivity and Vocational Training Department (PVTD).

The signing ceremony brought together Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and Korean Ambassador KIM Yong-Hyon, alongside Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir. KOICA Country Director Sooyoung Park and PVTD Chairman General Engineer Ehab Abadallah Ramadan were also present.

Timed with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Cairo and Seoul, the initiative underscores a joint commitment to sustainable development and the creation of a skilled workforce. It aims not only to provide advanced curricula and training systems for eco-friendly vehicle technologies but also to enhance employability and income opportunities for graduates of vocational training centers.

Ambassador KIM described the project as a symbol of the long-standing partnership between the two countries, saying: “This initiative will empower our youth and support a sustainable future in the automotive sector. Together, we are building a workforce aligned with global sustainability trends.”

Lieutenant General Al-Wazir stressed the importance of preparing highly trained technicians to meet the growing demand for EVs and CNG vehicles in Egypt’s market, highlighting the need for advanced simulation systems and battery maintenance equipment.

Minister Al-Mashat noted that the agreement fits squarely within Egypt’s national economic development narrative, which prioritizes shifting toward high-productivity, value-added sectors and expanding foreign investment. “This project is a model of how international cooperation can enhance technical education and vocational training while supporting Egypt’s broader development vision,” she said.

The new program builds on KOICA’s earlier interventions in Egypt, which since the 1990s have supported curriculum development, training materials, and equipment for multiple vocational training centers across the country.

KOICA’s work in Egypt extends beyond technical education, with programs promoting digital transformation of government services, gender equality, and social protection initiatives for vulnerable groups.
