CAIRO - 20 November 2024: The Egyptian government has announced that the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) now manages a development portfolio in Egypt valued at $100 million.
This was highlighted during a meeting between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and KOICA President Chang Wonsam, marking the first visit of a KOICA president to Egypt since 2009.
Prime Minister Madbouly expressed gratitude for Korea’s recognition of Egypt as one of its five priority partners for official development assistance, emphasizing the unique and fruitful collaboration between the two nations.
He also commended the progress in ongoing projects, including the second phase of the educational enhancement program at Beni Suef Technological University, worth $8 million, which integrates industry-focused curricula in mechatronics, ICT, electric vehicles, and railway technology.
In her remarks, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Rania Al-Mashat highlighted opportunities for further cooperation in green energy, advanced technology, and education reform. She also called for greater Korean private sector participation in Egypt to align with the country’s Vision 2030 goals.
KOICA President Chang praised Egypt’s developmental strides and underscored the importance of the partnership in regional and continental development. He also revealed plans for six new projects in Egypt in 2024, covering areas such as economic empowerment, climate sustainability, and capacity building.
This meeting reinforces the strong bilateral ties between Egypt and South Korea, promising expanded collaboration across various sectors.
