Financial position of banks operating in local market reported at LE 14.7trn: CBE

Cairo – December 18, 2023: In its latest report, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) revealed that the overall financial position of banks operating in the Egyptian market was recorded at LE 14.7 trillion in September, compared to LE 14.47 trillion reported at the end of August 2023.

The banks achieved net profits totaling LE 212.5 billion during the first nine months of the year.

Total deposits within the banking sector jumped to reach LE 9.8 trillion by the end of September 2023.

The CBE revealed that banks attained net revenues amounting to LE 486.1 billion, with total expenses recorded at LE 273.5 billion and net returns reaching LE 411.9 billion during the January–September period.

In a separate CBE report released today, the central bank highlighted the commitment to inclusivity demonstrated by banks operating in the Egyptian market.

It noted that the number of branches equipped with support for individuals with disabilities increased to 848 branches, which is equivalent to 18 percent of the total branches network, with the current number of ATMs for differently-abled individuals reached 4,950 machines, representing 22 percent of the total number of ATMs in Egypt.

“A total of 7060 banking cadres, have been trained on sign language to ensure easy handling of hearing and speech impaired customers, while issuing the account opening forms in Braille, and accepting the signature stamps and fingerprint as an alternative to the regular signature across all banking procedures,” the CBE wrote in its official statement.
