CAIRO - 1 March 2022: International wheat prices jumped 5 percent, the highest increase in 14 years, according to media reports.

Martin Griffiths, the United Nations Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, revealed that 50 percent of the wheat used by the United Nations World Food Program comes from Ukraine, saying, "This shows that the effects of the crisis are unfolding before our eyes, and we still have to see where You will drive."

The UN official expressed concern about the bombing of urban centers across Ukraine, and the unconfirmed reports of casualties and damage to residential infrastructure.

The Russian military operations announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukrainian lands are still ongoing since last Thursday. The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, witnessed Russian missile strikes targeting residential neighborhoods, which resulted in material and human casualties, according to a statement of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

The Russian forces have continued their military operation on Ukrainian soil since last Thursday, for the sixth consecutive day, which made a large number of countries in the world impose significant economic sanctions on Moscow, in addition to placing Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the lists of Penalties.

In an open session of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, Martin Griffiths said that the military operations have displaced hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians so far, appealing to the warring parties to respect humanitarian law.
