CAIRO - 23 February 2022: The Egyptian businessman, Naguib Sawiris, appealed to the Egyptian Minister of Supply to buy and store quantities of wheat in light of the Ukrainian crisis.

Sawiris said on his official Twitter page: "A piece of advice to the Minister of Supply... We must hurry to buy and store wheat before the war between Ukraine and Russia! They produce 30 percent of the world's wheat production."

Russia and Ukraine cover 23 percent  of wheat exports around the world, which will lead to a sharp rise in prices in the event of a war between the two countries.

Egypt, Lebanon and Libya are among the Arab countries that depend more on wheat than Russia and Ukraine, while Egypt ranks first in terms of importing wheat in the world.

Russia ranks first in terms of wheat exports to Egypt, and Ukraine comes in second.

It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced his country's recognition of the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk, on Monday evening, and ordered Russian forces to be sent to these two regions in eastern Ukraine on a "peacekeeping" mission.
