Dabaa nuclear plant project witnesses positive dynamic developments: Electricity min.

CAIRO – 15 July 2021: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr Mohamed Shaker said Thursday that the project to establish the Dabaa nuclear plant is witnessing positive dynamic developments, adding that the approach toward the Egyptian nuclear dream is proceeding with the full support of the Egyptian political leadership and whatever challenges lie ahead the professional Egyptian-Russian team is able to address them effectively and successfully.

This came during the minister's visit, accompanied by Alexei Likhachev, the Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), and a high-level Egyptian and Russian delegation to the construction site of the Dabaa nuclear power plant, according to a statement by the Ministry of Electricity.

Likhachev stressed that the Egyptian and Russian team work as one entity, set great goals and make every effort to achieve them as a result of these coordinated efforts, pointing out that the Egyptian-Russian team was able to hand over all the required licensing documents and documents slated for end of June to the Nuclear and Radiological Control Authority to obtain permission to establish the two units of the Dabaa nuclear plant.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority for Electricity Generation Dr Amgad el Wakeel said that the construction of the Dabaa nuclear plant gives an impetus to the country’s continued economic development and helps achieve the goals of the Sustainable Development Plan for Egypt 2030. It is an incentive to increase the industrial and tourism capabilities of Egypt in general and Matrouh Governorate in particular, he added.

The delegation also inspected the construction site of the marine berth at the Dabaa site, which is under construction by the owner, which is to be used to transport heavy equipment for the station.

The delegation also visited places where nuclear units were built at the site and were informed of the construction situation and future implementation plans for the project and also the residential city of Russian experts working on the site.
