CAIRO - 19 May 2021: The Cabinet approved on Wednesday a draft law on minimum wages at government entities, with the lowest monthly payment set at L.E. 2,400.

Applicable in July 2021, the minimum salary for the premium level of employees amounts to L.E.8,400. The high level is entitled to L.E. 6,000. The level of a general director takes at least L.E. 4,800.

After that, the first level of employees takes a minimum of L.E. 4,200, the second takes L.E. 3,600, the third L.E. 3,120, the fourth L.E.2,880, the fifth L.E.2,640, and the starting level should be paid at least L.E.2,400 on monthly basis.

At the outbreak of the 2011 revolution, a law setting a minimum on wages was one of the main popular demands. At the time, the minimum salary demanded was L.E. 2,000, but the Egyptian pound has since been devalued.
