Greece to expel Libyan ambassador over Turkey-Libya accord

CAIRO – 6 December 2019: Greece has announced a decision to expel the Libyan ambassador to the country, Mohamed Younis, following signing an accord between Libya and Turkey mapping out a sea boundary between the two countries close to Crete.

Younis had 72 hours to leave the country, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias told a news briefing, according to Reuters.

Dendias called the Turkey-Libyan accord a 'blatant violation of international law'.

The agreement on maritime boundaries in the Mediterranean Sea between Turkey and the Tripoli-based government could complicate disputes over energy exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Turkish drilling has angered Greek Cypriots, Athens, Egypt and the EU.
