Putin ratifies ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’ with Egypt
The agreement is about developing further cooperation in the sectors of trade, economy, technical military affairs, communications, nuclear energy, transportation, mining, tourism, science, education, cultural affairs, and coordination on mechanisms and measures aimed at combating various challenges and threats on the regional and international scales.
CAIRO - 17 October 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi told press he reviewed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin the resumption of direct flights from Russia to Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, and others as well as the updates of mega joint projects, mainly the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Economic Zone in SCzone.
The ongoing mega projects between both countries include the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, and the Russian Industrial Zone (RIZ) in Sczone.
CAIRO - 16 April 2019: The Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA) signed a deal with the Fuel Company of Rosatom TVEL, per which Egypt will import low-enriched uranium fuel for the Delta-based Experimental Training Research Reactor Number 2 (ETRR-2) for material physics and science and stable isotopes production.
In February, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish announced reaching an agreement with the Russian Export Center to establish a company that operates and administers the Russian Industrial Zone (RIZ) in Port Said before April.
The project is worth $7 billion and expected to provide 35,000 job opportunities. It stretches over 5.25 million square meters and will be built over three phases. The first will be finished by 2021, according to TASS.
The Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) and Transmashholding has signed a contract to supply 1,300 railcars. The contract states that 650 railcars will be supplied from Hungary, 500 will be delivered by Russia, and 150 will be manufactured by Egypt under the supervision by Transmashholding. An Egyptian locomotive factory will be established as part of a plan to localize the locomotive industry in Egypt and transfer the know-how to workers, technicians, and engineers in the sector. The factory will produce the 150 railcars and also provide maintenance services.
