CAIRO – 1 May 2018: Egyptian House Speaker, Ali Abdel Aal, received an invitation Monday from his Cypriot counterpart, Demetris Syllouris, to pay an official visit to the latter’s country in September to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus.

Syllouris said during an interview with the Egyptian TV host Ahmed Moussa that he and Abdel Aal discussed the expected trilateral meeting between Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, scheduled to be held in the Cypriot capital of Nicosia.

Syllouris added that both, his country and Egypt, happen to possess a great wealth of gas field in the deep Mediterranean. “The cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus in the field of energy will provide our nations with a prosperous life, sadly, there are countries in the region which would not like to see this happening to us,” added Syllouris.

“We should do the best of this great wealth through cooperation to discover more lucrative gas fields,” continued Syllouris.

Earlier on Monday, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and his Greek and Cypriot counterparts, Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Nicos Anastasiades respectively, have inaugurated the Week of Revival of Hellenism in Egypt during a celebration in Alexandria.

The celebration is presented by both of the Greek and Cypriot communities in Egypt, along with several officials and celebrities.

The communities’ members are expected to visit several historical and important places around Egypt, including Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Ras Al Tin Marine Base, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, the Greek Cemeteries, Alexandria National Museum, Cavafy Museum, the Monastery of St. Sava and the Arab Academy for Science and Technology in Alexandria. Later, the two communities’ members are also expected to travel to Cairo and Giza to visit the Pyramids, and then they will head to Sharm el-Sheikh to visit the monastery of St. Catherine.
