CAIRO – 2 September 2017: A Qatari tribal leader and sheikh, Sultan Al-Murri, said on Saturday to Saudi News outlets that Qataris are “used to the regime’s lies and attempts to distort the tribes of Qatar in order to tear up the tribal social fabric in favor of the minority of Iranians.” He added that the Hamad bin Khalifa plan to change the composition of the population in Qatar is old and recognized by all tribes in Qatar, including Al-Murrah tribe.”

Al-Murry comments came after the Qatari media affiliated to Emir Tamim bin Hamad, broadcasted a video, claiming that it was leaked, of Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, meeting with a number of sheikhs and members of a Qatari Arab-tribe Al-Murrah.

“We as sheikhs and members of Al-Murrah Tribe requested to meet with the Saudi Crown Prince. The Prince hosted us in the Royal Diwan in Jeddah (a government building),” said Sultan Al-Murry.

“I am the one who recorded part of the conversation between the Crown Prince and the head of Al-Murrah tribe delegation, my father, Faisal Ben Sherim, and my uncle, Taleb Ben Sherim. I asked for their permission to share the video with some journalists because I was proud of the meeting, and that is what happened. The video is not leaked and the Qatari media is incorrect,” he added.

Furthermore, Al-Murry confirmed that the attempt by some Qatari media to claim that the meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince was in a private place is incorrect and false. He pointed out that the meeting was held in the Royal Court in Jeddah and that it was a public meeting in which a large group from Al-Murrah tribe sheikhs and members were present, but the video only showed a small group of the attendees.

He also denounced the Qatari media’s claim that the video was leaked without the knowledge and consent of Sheikhs Faisal and Talib as well as the sheikhs appearing in the video, stressing that all sheikhs of the tribe knew that he was filming the meeting.

Al-Murry said that the meeting and the video showed the level of mutual respect between the tribe and Saudi Arabia. In addition, he pointed out that the meeting discussed the level of suffering faced by all tribes in general and the Murrah tribe in particular. He also confirmed that the Murrah tribe has nothing to hide and that they inherited the true Arab values including honesty.

He added, “We are used to this regime’s lies and attempts to distort the tribes of Qatar in order to tear up the tribal social fabric in favor of the minority of Iranians. The plan to change the composition of the population in Qatar by Hamad bin Khlaifa is old and recognized by all Qatar tribes, including Al-Murrah tribe.”

Al-Murry confirmed that all Al-Murrah sheikhs and leaders said to the Saudi Crown Prince that they wish to be among the first contributors to return Qatar to the Arab legitimacy following the attempts by the current regime to bring foreign occupation forces to the country to suppress the people in Qatar.

In 2005, Qatar revoked the citizenship of about 5,000 to 6,000 members of Al Ghafran clan of the

Al Murrah tribe

and exiled them to Saudi Arabia, allegedly for playing a major role in the failed counter-coup of 1996. The tribe used to hold ministerial positions between 1996 and 2013 until Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani became the Emir.

Three months ago, on June 5, the Arab-Qatar crisis broke out after four countries - Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain - severed diplomatic ties with the country for funding and supporting terrorism and chaos in the Middle East.
