CAIRO – 11 February 2021: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Thursday Jordanian Prime Minister Bishr el-Khasawneh, where they discussed common challenges facing the Arab region and the development of the peace process in the Middle East.

The meeting was attended by Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and Abbas Kamel, Chief of General Intelligence.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the Jordanian Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of His Majesty the King of Jordan to the President, expressing Jordan's keenness to coordinate and intensively consult with Egypt on various issues, as well as developing the prospects for bilateral cooperation, in light of the strong relations and ties between the two countries on all levels.

For his part, President Sisi praised Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein for the good reception and generous hospitality during the last presidential visit to Jordan. He also expressed his aspiration to continue with the existing coordination between the two countries at various levels, whether bilaterally or within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Iraq, especially in light of the growing challenges facing the region.

The Spokesman added that the meeting dealt with reviewing the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, especially with regard to cooperation in the fields of: energy, combating terrorism and extremist ideology, and ways to strengthen economic relations and increase trade exchange.

Among the topics tackled during the meeting are the developments in the peace process in the Middle East, and the Egyptian-Jordanian coordination, especially in light of the results of the last ministerial meeting of the League of Arab States on February 8. Both leaders stressed the importance of working to intensify international efforts to settle the Palestinian crisis based on international legitimacy decisions, with the aim of resolving the peace process and resuming negotiations.
