From fiery jewel tones and sparkling gold to the comeback of the LBD for the ladies and shiny suits for the men, this party season is all about dressing it up a notch By May El Khishen and illustrations by Asmaa Taki El Deen
Subtle, it is not. This party season is all about the sparkle and shine. From fiery bright colors to shiny black ensembles, this is your chance to unleash your inner Hollywood star. Egypt Today gives you a few tips on how to become the belle and beau of any party. Ladies Forget about embellishing your outfits with accessories, play around with different hues and fabrics instead. The shiny monochromatic colors of the season are magically transformed into sassy party dresses with details like pleating and draping, and fabrics such as shiny satins and shimmering metallics. Radiant Red Jewel tones like ruby red are flirtatious, sexy and definitely eye popping. This sexy color is complemented by figure-fitting fabrics like chiffon with ruffles or even shiny satin. These jewel tones don’t just attract, they command and will definitely make you stand out at a party (which is hopefully the reaction you are going for.). Fashion Tip: Jewel tones are not only restricted to ruby red, so don’t shy away from experimenting with other colors, like emerald or amethyst. Golden Glamor
Gold is no longer just a showgirl’s choice of color. It is the color of style, sexiness and simplicity. This season it has been altered to create several new looks, from tough to feminine to classic. If its a gold top, black is a natural pairing. For pants, cover your derriere with a dark blazer. All dresses are best worn in a muted tone, and if you are planning on going all the way with a gown, opt for a silhouette as well tailored and fitted as an Oscar award statuette. Fashion Tip: Give your dangling golden hoops a break and replace them with short gold stud earrings instead. If you want to add more accessories, you can get away with a single gold cuff. Adding more shiny accessories is bound to ruin the look rather than accentuate it. One more crucial tip: Nothing skintight, ladies. It doesn’t matter if you are a size zero or a size 12, it is still a definite faux pas.
Brilliant Black
Black is back and in a big way. Nothing beats a little black dress (LBD) for your night out; from strapless long evening gowns to short sheath dresses, the LBD is an all-time favorite. Thank you, Coco Chanel.Experiment with fabrics like lace, chiffon and satin to give this look a more glamorous touch. Fashion Tip: For a more daring and avant garde look, why not accent your outfit with a black and gold masquerade mask? Or maybe even a black mask embellished with some feathers a la Cabaret style? The Party Shop on Mossadak street in Mohandiseen (opposite Hardee’s) has a diverse collection to choose from. Gents
Gentlemen, break out of your daily routine and replace your standard pinstriped suits and monotone blazers with some razzle dazzle in your closets.Embrace your metrosexuality by adding a little bit of glitz and glamor to your next big party outfit. The Party Tux
Remember when celebrity heartthrobs like Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp started wearing three-piece suits with shiny satin collars a few years back? And we Egyptians were very reluctant to walk in their footsteps? Well, that is ancient history.Suits with shiny satin collars are must-haves for the long line of parties that you are invited to (or even dragged to by the missus) this season. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, buy the full-on three-piece suit, not just a blazer and pants. Trust us, this look is bound to grab the attention of more than a few female guests. Fashion Tip: While we encourage you to wear suits with shiny satin collars, we encourage you to buy them well-fitted and in dark hues like black, navy blue and charcoal grey. For your sake (and ours), please avoid lighter hues like white and cream when opting for this look.
