A love for the beauty in women and horses, with a unique oriental touch mark the works of Khadiga Balbaa's exhibitions
By Nora ElHariri
Egyptian artist Khadiga Balbaa presented her fans with yet another a set of unique paintings showcased at her new gallery, which opened on December 22 at Zamalek's Galerie Extra and ends on Saturday — so go see her while you still can.
Driven by her passion for beauty,  Balbaa draws, sketches and sews. But unlike many artists, she gives her undivided attention to just women and horses; what she describes as “life's pleasures.”
“People love seeing the beauty in women and horses,” Balbaa says, “they also love gold, and consequently I have a lot of bright golden objects in many of my paintings.”
Balbaa has displayed her works in more than 30 galleries worldwide, some solely for her works and others in collaboration with various artists. She participated in an exhibition at the Picasso art gallery in collaboration with the French Cultural Center in Egypt, and many held at the Cairo Opera House. Among her international exhibitions, she participated in exhibitions held in  Paris, Greece, Prague, Jeddah and Uganda, among others.
From her various trips, Balbaa has come to love the French, “Of all the countries I went to, I noticed that the French appreciate art more than any other peoples.” But in general, she believes foreigners appreciate the prominent presence of the East in her works as they find it  eye-catching and unique. California residents, for one, showed great appreciation of her work during the a fabric painting exhibition, recounts Balbaa.
Balbaa describes herself as an aspiring artist by nature. She never received any formal education in drawing or painting, but has been drawing for as long as she can remember, believing that she is showing appreciation for the gift of art God has blessed her with. Balbaa concludes, “I began painting before I even leaned how to read and write.”
