Yemeni President Aly Abd Allah Saleh survived a rather violent assassination attempt on June 3, when the presidential premises were bombed with two explosives. Seven people were killed and many others injured, including the president, the prime minister and the head of Yemen’s parliament. Saleh, just to assure his concerned people, broadcast a voice memo assuring them that he is alive and well — then took off to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment. At press time, the embattled president was still in Riyadh, fueling speculation that he may not return. Saleh has refused to relinquish power, however, leaving his country in turmoil.
