CAIRO – 18 March 2021: Egyptian Member of Parliament Safwat el-Naggar affirmed that Parliament’s support for agreements and investments aimed at developing Sinai, including the government’s loan agreement with the Kuwaiti Monetary Fund for the desalination of sea water.

The Parliament approved Wednesday a loan agreement between the Egyptian government, and the Kuwaiti Monetary Fund, for the desalination of sea water project that will took place in the cities of Rafah and Bir al-Abd, in North Sinai.

Naggar described this agreement as “historic,” saying that it transforms the North Sinai desert into a qualified area, marking an unprecedented economic shift.

He further explained that such projects will improve the living standard of North Sinai residents, which supports the process of eliminating terrorism through reconstruction.

Al-Najjar added in a statement that the project to establish seawater desalination networks in that area will be in coordination between the Urban Communities Authority, the Ministry of Housing and Parliament in general, and the Future of the Nation Party in particular, which strongly supports the state’s plan for reconstruction and the exploitation of available natural resources such as sea water.

Al-Najjar thanked the State of Kuwait, its government and its people, pointing out that the agreement with easy terms that amount to a grant is an extension of Kuwait's strong stances with Egypt.
