CAIRO – 23 February 2021: Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed and Chinese Ambassador to Cairo Liao Liqiang held a joint press conference Tuesday a few hours after Egypt's receipt of a consignment of 300,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine as a grant from China.

Minister Zayed stated that registration to get vaccinated will resume online Sunday, February 28 for citizens aged above 40, and those suffering from chronic diseases. The minister added that the vaccination process will take place at 40 venues across the 27 governorates.

The minister thanked the Chinese ambassador, who in turn hailed bilateral relations saying the Egyptian-Chinese ties are an ideal example of China's relations with Africa, and the Arab World.

The ambassador pointed out that Egypt and China exchanged grants of medical equipment during the pandemic, which reflects the strong ties between both countries.  "To return the favor, we are eager to support Egypt through the pandemic," Liqiang said.

Spokesperson of the Ministry Khaled Megahed had pointed out that the Chinese vaccine is effective by 86 percent in preventing COVID-19 infection, 99 percent in producing anti-bodies, and 100 percent in preventing medium and severe symptoms.

It is noted that the vaccination of medical staff was finalized earlier this week by a rate of 50 percent.
