CAIRO – 3 July 2017: German Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel said in a joint press conference with his Saudi counterpart Adel al Jubair on Monday that he does not “have impression that Arab states are questioning Qatar’s sovereignty.”

He added that the solution to Qatar’s crisis must include ceasing its support of extremist groups in the region and the unity of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Gabriel also expressed his state’s support for the Kuwaiti mediation between Qatar and its neighbor to resolve the crisis.

In addition to ending any support to terrorism and extremist groups, German FM added that there is room for a rational solution such as focusing on good relations between the neighboring countries and reaching a mechanism to end terrorism financing in the region.

Gabriel expressed Germany’s admiration and respect for the new Saudi policies and the 2030 vision stipulating that Houthis and former Yemeni President Ali Abdulla Saleh should stop attempting to control Yemen.

“We are holding to the unity of Iraqi territories and opposing any division plans,” Gabriel said.
