CAIRO –1 July 2017: A group of Turkey-based Muslim Brotherhood
affiliates administrating a Facebook page named “Maktab Herak Misr” attempted to incite social unrest between the Egyptian people, army and police forces via the social media platform, under the direction and funding of Turkish intelligence.

The page administrators seized the chance of the Egyptian government’s recent fuel price hikes to target their latest messages of dissent. The page vainly sought to incite Egyptians to inflict violence and cause domestic chaos, attack the ruling regime, and call people to hold demonstrations. It promotes the slogan “Stop your car”; calling on people to stop their cars blocking streets and bridges to cause traffic disruption across the country.

The fuel price increase came among a number of economic strategies to economize the government’s public expenses by minimizing subsides and redirecting public expenses to create massive national projects that will benefit people in return, including those of low income.
