CAIRO – 8 November 2020: Chairman of the Slum Development Fund Ihab Hanafy told press Sunday that the alternative housing project, Maan, executed in collaboration with the civil sector will be completed by the end of 2020.

 

The project is located in the second phase of Salam neighborhood eastern Cairo, and consists of two phases.

 

The project spans over 60 feddans, and houses 184 buildings having 4,416 residential units. Only 16.6 percent of the area is built up as the rest is allocated for landscape, roads, and facilities.  

 

The facilities available are a theater, banquet hall, cultural center, cinemas, elementary school, secondary school, youth center, mosque, church, shopping mall, workshops, orphanage, retirement home, hospital, social club, playground, and governmental service complex.   

 

The construction of residential buildings is over by 100 percent. The first phase is constituted of 34 buildings having 1.104 residential units, while the second is composed of 102 buildings having 3,312 residential units.

 

Since 2014, the Egyptian state has built thousands of alternative housing units that are divided upon neighborhoods like Asmarat, Mahrousa, Gheit Al Enab, Rawdet Al Sayeda, Tahya Misr, and others.
