CAIRO - 1 October: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived Thursday in Egypt back from Kuwait, after offering condolences over the death of Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

New Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad and members of the emir’s family as well as a number of high-level officials received the president in Kuwait.

Meeting with Sheikh Nawaf, Sisi expressed appreciation to the late emir’s stances supporting Egyptian-Kuwaiti relations.

Sheikh Nawaf Al Jaber thanked Sisi for his visit, which comes as an extension of historic relations between the two countries and their peoples. He wished the Egyptian government and people peace, progress and prosperity.

Sisi had announced public mourning in Egypt for three days after the death of the emir.

The mourning started Tuesday and will end on Thursday, according to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.

"The Arab Republic of Egypt, in these painful circumstances, should remember with gratitude and appreciation the brotherly stances of Emir Sabah, and his outstanding fingerprints in the renaissance of Kuwait and the Arab and Islamic nations," said a presidency statement.

Sisi tweeted after the news "I mourn with great sadness and sorrow the death of the late Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, as the Arab and Islamic nation lost a precious leader, and I express sincere condolences to the sisterly State of Kuwait, government and people."
