CAIRO – 20 August 2020: Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has awarded Hungary’s Ambassador in Cairo Peter Kveck a firs-class Order of the Republic, for his outstanding efforts to promote the Egyptian-Hungarian relations as he served 12 years in the post, state’s MENA reported.

 

Approved by the Egyptian president, Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs Badr Abdel Ati handed over the order to Kveck, a statement by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday read.

 

During the ceremony, Abel Ati voiced deep appreciation to the efforts exerted by Kveck.

 

He noted that the summits which the leaderships of the two countries held had given momentum to economic and trade cooperation between the two sides.

 

For his part, the ambassador expressed deep appreciation to the president’s decision to honor him with the Order of the Republic.

 

He also lauded cooperation of all Egyptian bodies with him during his term in office in Egypt.

In September last year, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met his Hungarian counterpart, János Áder, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.

 

President Sisi hailed the historic friendly relations between Egypt and Hungary, expressing Egypt's satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations in recent years, which was reflected in the holding of three presidential summits between the two countries since 2015, most recently the President's visit to Budapest in July 2017 to participate in the Visegrád summit.

 

He further affirmed the importance of continuing to strengthen the relations between the two countries at various levels, as well as to strengthen consultation and continuous coordination between the two countries on the international arena.

 

For his part, the Hungarian President commended the strong and historical friendship between the two countries and the continuous understanding and mutual support.

 

Áder also praised the political stability and economic progress achieved by Egypt over the past few years, stressing the importance of Egypt's active role in restoring stability in the Middle East, through Egypt's efforts in combating terrorism and illegal immigration, and its contributions in advancing political settlements to regional crises.
