CAIRO - 28 June 2017: Adel El Shorbagy, senior deputy to the head of the Court of Cassation, said the Building and Development Party violated the Political Parties Law.

The Political Parties Affairs Committee demanded the party be dissolved because religion is a central tenant of the party, which is a violation of the law.

Shorbagy, who is also head of Egypt's Political Parties Affairs Committee, added in a press release that the party breached the constitution for being founded on religious basis which is a threat for national unity, social peace, and the country’s democratic system.

In this context, and according to the Public Prosecution findings; leaders of the parties are said to be involved in violence and terroristic acts.

Shorbagy added that, according to the public prosecution memo, the party’s funding sources are unknown, which is a violation of the law which states that “the means and funding sources for any political party must be public.”

Shorbagy added that the Supreme Administrative Court is said to schedule a session within a week to consider dissolving the party according to Article no. 17 of the Political Parties Law, provided that the court issues a verdict within 30 days of the session.
