Al Azhar rejects Israeli plans to annex parts of occupied West Bank

CAIRO - 2 July 2020: Al Azhar expressed absolute rejection of Israeli plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.

In a statement on Thursday, it warned that Israel’s expansionist policy threatens peace in the region and violates international law and conventions.

Its annexation scheme is a blatant violation of the rights of the Palestinians, it said.

The world’s most eminent seat of Sunni Muslim learning urged the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to hold urgent meetings to stand firmly against the Israeli annexation scheme.
