CAIRO - 23 April 2020: Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli announced that the night-time curfew hours were shortened to start from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am during the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar when Muslims worldwide fast from dusk to dawn.

In a press conference on the state’s new procedures against the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic during the holy month, Madbouli added that the commercial centers are allowed to open over the whole week until 5:00 pm.

The Prime Minister announced that the state and the Egyptians have to cope with COVID-19 impacts via precautionary measures as the disease could exist for a long time.

We have balanced between taking preventive measures against coronavirus and allowing the economy and production to continue, he said, adding that there is a qualitative change that took place in many countries' vision toward fighting coronavirus, including deciding to open the economy, after millions of workers lost their jobs.

It is expected that the total number of coronavirus cases will increase during the next period in Egypt, Mabdouli said.

After the holy month of Ramadan, the state plans to restore normal life, while maintaining the global preventive measures against coronavirus.

The current situation amid the coronavirus crisis in Egypt goes as planned but the state may have to take tougher measures if the situation worsens, he said, adding, some administrative services will be reopened partially and gradually starting next week.

He added that the state reviews the possibility to restore domestic tourism during the coming days.

Among the decisions to facilitate procedures during Ramadan is reopening offices of the recorder of deeds, some courts charged with issuing official documents such as the announcement of inheritance and traffic departments to issue driving licenses for new vehicles.
