CAIRO- 21 June 2017: Mohamed El Gendy, the lawyer for former minister Habib al-Adly, revealed to Youm7 that al-Adly is legally obliged to be present at the Court of Cassation during the appeal's hearing, otherwise the court shall be entitled to reject his appeal and issue a final verdict against the charges of misusing funds from the Ministry of Interior.

In another statement released to Youm7, El Gendy added that “al-Adly will turn himself in to the authorities before any appeal is filed, or his failure to show will result in his right to appeal being waivered and the court will reject the appeal and the verdict will be rendered final.”

Mubarak-era Minister of Interior Habib Al-Adly has filed an appeal in May before the Court of Cassation against a seven-year prison sentence on charges of seizure of public money allocated to the Ministry of Interior treasury.

In this context, the memorandum presented by the defense included several objections that rejected the court sentence against Al-Adly. The most prominent objection was that the sentence referred to violates the regulations of the law.

Another objection was the deficiency in reasoning; putting it differently, the judge in his judgment did not state the facts of the case, the circumstances surrounding it, the evidence and the content of each of them.
