Egypt, Russia discuss COVID-19 crisis and Ethiopian Renaissance dam

CAIRO - 13 April 2020: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Monday, discussing the bilateral relation, the crisis of the coronavirus pandemic, and other regional and international issues of mutual concern, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement.

“The call tackled ways of curbing the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, and measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus, as well as how to deal with the various consequences of the crisis,” said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez in the statement.

The two ministers also discussed the latest developments of the regional topics such as the Palestinian issue and the turmoils in Syria and Libya, Hafez added, noting that both ministers also tackled the latest developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

On January 10, 2020, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart about the recent developments in Libya, and emphasized the need to curb illegal foreign interference in the Libyan affairs
