CAIRO – 1 April 2020: The Egyptian parliament said Tuesday that it closely follows the current situation that the country is going through amid preventive measures taken to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, reported an official statement.

The parliament affirmed in the official statement that the House Speaker, Ali Abdel Aal, along with the parliament’s Bureau are communicating with the relevant authorities to assure the implementation of mechanisms limiting the spread of the infectious virus.

Speaker Abdel Aal ordered the relevant parliament’s committees to take certain actions bearing in mind the importance of avoiding meetings as per the guidelines set by the ministry of health and the World Health Organization.

Abdel Aal’s directions included following up on the situation and closely studying the complaints reported to the parliament’s committees by representatives and citizens in order to help those who are most affected by the preventive measures taken to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Abdel Aal had also ordered to have weekly reports sent to him by the chairs of the committees on the issues referred to them in this regard which include the finalized proposed recommendations, read the parliament’s statement.

The House Speaker urged the parliament’s committees to always communicate with the government’s relevant institutions in order to implement the finalized recommendations, adding that he personally approached the cabinet to facilitate these communications.
