CAIRO – 15 March 2020: A number of Ethiopians living in the United States participated Sunday in the protest organized by the Egyptian community in America outside the White House to express gratitude for the US administration’s efforts in the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) negotiations.

The Ethiopians said that they seek to curb any possible war between their country in Egypt, rejecting any meddling that would complicate the negotiations between their country and Egypt in a way that would harm both nations’ interests.

The members of the Ethiopian community in the US added that they are rooting for the peaceful Egyptian approach in order to realize a fair resolution based on cooperation for a better future.

They asserted that the Dam could bring many benefits without harming the water rights of the downstream countries Sudan and Egypt, adding that the Nile has always been a vital resource for all the continent’s countries since the dawn of history.

The Ethiopians said that they trust that Egypt will not accept harming the interests of the Ethiopian people, adding that they participate in the peaceful protest to urge reason and sharing of the water resources.

They criticized the obstinate position of the Ethiopian government and its reluctance to peacefully resolve the situation with Egypt. They pointed out that there is no religion, civilization, or reason that would accept to harm people’s interests.

The Egyptian community in the US has launched a petition to urge the American administration to intensify its efforts in order to revive the negotiations and protect Egypt’s water rights, the petition was signed by 20000 in just two days.
