The world’s largest wind farm, Gabal Al Zeit having a capacity of 500 MW and 390 turbines - Egypt Today

CAIRO - 8 December 2019: Egypt Today shot photos and a video of the world’s largest wind farm, Gabal Al Zeit having a capacity of 580 MW and 390 turbines.



The farm was built in a budget worth LE12 billion and is equipped with a bird control radar system to stop the turbines when migrant birds are passing.

Egypt to sign contract with Siemens to build two wind stations

CAIRO - 16 October 2019: The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) will sign an agreement with Siemens Gamesa to build two wind power plants, an official source at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy said on Wednesday.




Gabal El Zeit wind farm is located southern Ras Ghareb city in the Red Sea governorate, and was inaugurated in July 2018 by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi via video conference.

Renewables’ contribution in Egypt’s energy mix is planned to become 20 percent and 42 percent by 2022 and 2035, respectively.
