CAIRO - 17 November 2019: Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie stated that 1.3 million ships carrying cargo weighing 28.6 billion tons and worth LE135.9 billion passed through the canal since its inauguration 150 years ago.

The Suez Canal Authority held on Sunday a ceremony to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the waterway’s inauguration. The ceremony was attended by the authority’s Chairman Rabie, French Ambassador to Egypt Stephane Romatet, senior officials, and diplomats.

The ships crossing the canal while the ceremony was taking place whistled blasts to show their celebration of the event.
