CAIRO – 15 June 2017: The head of the Desert Research Center affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture Naim Meselhy stated on Wednesday that development work and stabilization of sand dunes achieved through vegetation have started in Sinai.

Meselhy told Egypt Today that the center works on identifying the types of crops suitable for the soil in the North Sinai areas of Rabaa and Be’r El Abd for future development projects. He added that many programs are currently put into effect to maximize benefits from natural resources to achieve agricultural expansion and animal production projects in desert governorates.

Meselhy said that the center finished developing eight kilometers divided upon five valleys in Ras El Hekma, Marsa Matrouh, and Barani. In winter 2016, the center also completed rain water harvesting projects consisting of 240 reservoirs with a capacity of 32,000 m2.

Furthermore, the center installed an olive factory with a capacity of 350 kg/h in a plant located in Barani area. The project will be inaugurated next April.
