CAIRO – 13 June 2017: Most of the maps pertaining to the Red Sea islands of Tiran and Sanafir circulated on social media are not real, but forged by specific entities aiming to create chaos, Speaker of the Parliament Ali Abdel Al-Aal said during a Parliamentary session held on the disputed islands on Sunday.

Parliament commenced on discussing the transfer of Egyptian sovereignty over Tiran and Sanafir to Saudi Arabia, despite a final court verdict issued in January to annul the agreement.

During the session, it was decided that Egypt will preserve administrative control over the two islands while handing it over to Saudi Arabia as part of a controversial deal, according to a government report.

The report was delivered to the Legislative Committee of the Parliament to prove Saudi possession of the two islands that are located at the entrance of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea, however will still remain under Egyptian control for security reasons.
