TOKYO - 8 September 2019: The Japanese weather agency Sunday warned that central and eastern Japan regions including Tokyo areas could see some of their most powerful ever winds as Typhoon Faxai is approaching.

The season's 15th typhoon is expected to make landfall in coastal areas of the Kanto region or Shizuoka Prefecture between late Sunday and early Monday, bringing winds of up to 216 kilometers per hour, the Japan Meteorological Agency said was quoted by Kyodo news agency as saying.

As of 11 a.m., Faxai was traveling about 140 km south-southwest of Hachijo Island in the Pacific.

In the 24 hours through midday Monday, the typhoon is forecast to bring between 200 and 300 millimeters of rainfall to central and eastern Japan.

Central Japan Railway Co. said it will reduce shinkansen bullet train services between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka from Sunday evening.
