Egypt’s administrative capital, landmarks plunged into darkness for Earth Hour

CAIRO – 30 March 2019: Sharing the world for Earth Hour movement, Egypt’s new administrative capital will switch off light to promote public awareness of electricity rationalization to decrease the rate of CO2 emissions.

For 60 minutes starting from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (local time), darkness will fall in the administrative capital. Meanwhile, Egyptian landmarks of Giza’s Pyramids, Sphinx, Salah el Din Citadel, Cairo Tower, Alexandria’ Bibliotheca, Qaitbay citadel, and some temples in Luxor and Aswan will switch off lights to promote public awareness of climate change threats.

The new administrative capital will also see darkness to celebrate this movement to be Egypt’s platform for participation in this initiative.

The Earth Hour movement was organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which called for millions of people to switch off light worldwide.

Some countries like Australia, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia turned off light. Meanwhile, thousands of people lighted candles.
